Read MoreIt’s Wednesday, June 5th and is our first day in Bermuda. Since we’ve been here before, we knew what to expect. However it was the first time for my son, and he wanted to see the island so we hired a private driver for the day. I reached out to Carol-Lynn Smith on Facebook as she came highly recommended in the cruise groups. I ended up booking with her for $290 for 4 hours. That was $240 for the tour and a $50 booking fee she charges. I paid her the $50 over the phone, then the remainder was to be paid to our driver. She also sent me photos of where to meet the driver, which was in the taxi line.
We slept in a little this morning since we weren’t meeting our driver until 10am. We ate breakfast on the ship then took our time getting off. We walked to the taxi stand and found our driver. His name was Rickai, and was Carols nephew. We got into his taxi and off we went. The first place we stopped was Glass Beach where we saw a bunch of sea glass. This was fun to see and we didn’t see it on our first visit. It’s not really a beach to go to if you want to swim but it was neat to see the sea glass. From there, we continued on to Woody’s. My wifes maiden name is Woody so we had to stop there to grab a photo. From there, we rode down to Church Bay where we stopped at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Here we grabbed some drinks and a map for my son. I spent $29.50 at the lighthouse.
After we left Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, we rode up to overlook Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay. We continued up the island to St. David’s Lighthouse to get some photos. We checked out the lighthouse area, then headed to St. George so we could see the public dunking. This is something we missed last year, so we got to enjoy it this year. We spent a little time around St. George then headed over to Gates Fort Park to check out Gates Fort. We grabbed some photos and learned about that fort.
Once we left Gates Fort, we went down to Flatts Village to the aquarium and saw the sea turtles. This was a very nice area with some nice houses on the Harrington Sound. Once we left Flatts Village, we headed back to the Royal Naval Dockyard where Rickai would drop us off at the clocktower. Rickai was super and we really enjoyed him and his tour and narration. I highly recommend booking through Carol-Lynn Smith if you visit Bermuda. Tell her I sent ya!
Once we got to the Clocktower, we did a little shopping in a few of the stores there. First, my son wanted a magnet from Grand Bazaar at the mall, so I bought that for him for $6. He wanted to get it for his grandma. Then we went into Bermuda Triangle (store) to buy some things. Mainly shirts. I spent $164.80 in there on various shirts. Then we went over to Davidson’s to shop. Surprisingly we didn’t buy anything at this location. We then took our purchases back to the ship to drop them off. We did that, then went to get tokens for the ferry so we could head over to Hamilton for Harbor Nights. I don’t remember the exact cost but I think it was about $25 for round trip tokens for the 3 of us. This is something we really enjoyed last year, so I wanted to do it again. I also wanted to get me some Ashley’s Lemonade. We became friends with Ashley last year so it was cool to be back there this year.
I spent $25 on 2 lemonades from her so we’d stay refreshed while walking around Harbor Nights. We then spent the evening walking around Harbor Nights, checking out the vendors and just people watching. It was a nice relaxing evening. We went to go back to the famous alleyway that’s lit up with the colored steps, but it was gone. They tore the building down that was one side of that alley so we didn’t get to experience that again. We walked around some more and ended up at Davidsons. My son found a jacket he liked so we bought that for him along with some other shirts. I ended up spending $137.90 at Davidsons
After we were done with Harbor Nights, we got back on the ferry to head back to the dockyard. It had been a long first day and we were pooped.
Today is a new day! We slept in a little then got off of the ship. Today we planned on making a beach day. We were originally going to go back to St. George, but the free NCL ferry left 15 minutes early and was completely full. So we went to get on the Bermuda ferry, and it was full as well and that was the last ferry going for the day, at 1:15pm. So we ended up getting in a minibus for $7 per person and heading to Horseshoe Bay Beach. We got to Horseshoe Bay and spent the day enjoying the beach. We did have to walk a ways down the beach to get a less crowded spot because around the entrance was insanely packed.
This was an uneventful day, we just spent the day enjoying the beach. 🙂 Once we were done, we paid $7/pp and headed back to the dockyard. The sun drained us so we spent the evening eating on the ship and relaxing.
When we bought my son his jacket on Wednesday in Hamilton, the zipper was broken on it. So the first thing I did was take it to Davidsons at the Dockyard. Thankfully the same girl was working that was at the Hamilton location, so she exchanged the jacket for me with no issue. I then went to Crown & Anchor and bought me 2 shirts for $61.50. I just hung out around the Dockyard for the day until it was sail away time. I then made my way back to the cabin and we sat on the balcony and watched the ship sail away from Bermuda. It was a fantastic 3 days and I look forward to being back there soon.
